Males under 30 have tipped the scales of an online poll conducted by Forum Research which found than men support women breastfeeding in public slightly more than women do. The particularly high interest among males under 30 in seeing more women breastfeeding contributed to men overall being 5% more likely to approve of the public practice than women.
“It seems that males are simply more open to the idea of women bearing their breasts in public than ever before,” explained Lorne Bozinoff, president and CEO of Forum. “Rather than viewing breastfeeding as something to be done in the privacy of home, they’re all about them titties.”
“Women, while generally supportive of the right of a woman to breastfeed in public, are nonetheless less likely to want other women breastfeeding around them,” Bozinoff continued. “One surprisingly common reason for this, according to our survey, is that they don’t want to invite comparisons between the size of their own breasts and those of biologically enhanced nursing mothers. Competing with busty new moms is apparently a thing among women.”
The study was conducted online, and participated in by 786 men and 814 women between the ages of 18 and 65.
